How to Choose a Cleaner: What Most People Get Wrong
Finding a Cleaner You Can Actually Trust
Most people search Google, click the first result, and book. Then they wonder why they keep getting disappointing results. Here's the honest guide to choosing a cleaner who is actually worth it.
1. Police checks and insurance are non-negotiable
Anyone entering your home should have a current police check and public liability insurance. If a cleaning company can't confirm this upfront, walk away. At PF Cleaning, every cleaner on our network is vetted and insured before their first booking.
2. Read reviews — but read them critically
Look for reviews that mention specific details: the cleaner's name, what they cleaned, how long it took. Generic five-star reviews with no content can be fake. Detailed reviews from real customers are gold.
3. Ask about consistency
Will you get the same cleaner every visit? Consistency matters. It takes time to trust someone in your home. A good agency assigns you a fixed cleaner so that relationship builds over time.
4. Understand what you're paying for
The cheapest option is rarely the best value. Consider: do they bring their own equipment and products? Are they trained? Do they have a satisfaction guarantee? These things cost money — and they protect you.
5. Agency vs private cleaner
See our full post on this. Short version: an agency gives you vetting, insurance backup, and someone to call if things go wrong. A private cleaner can be great but the risk is entirely on you.
Bottom line: Don't choose a cleaner based on price alone. Choose based on trust, consistency, and accountability.
